Ditch & Switch Laundry Detergent
Updated: Jun 3, 2022
Common toxic ingredients found in laundry detergents:
Ethoxylated Ingredients (ingredients ending in -eth, phenoxyethanol, polysorbate, etc.): Very likely contaminated with the carcinogen 1,4 Dioxane.
Fragrance: A loophole, blanket term for over 3k various ingredients.
Methylisothiazolinone + Benzathiazolinone: Toxic biocides with studies showing potential damage to the nervous system.
Propylene Glycol: Petroleum based ingredient, irritating to skin and a penetration enhancer.
There’s also a couple environmental factors to consider with laundry detergent: the chemicals that ARE washed away are one of the primary sources of chemical pollution in water supplies. The big plastic containers that house laundry detergents likely end up in landfills.
My Top Pick:
TrulyFree Toxin free, cost effective, performs just like conventional detergent, and smells amazing too! VERY environmentally friendly too. You get a jug with your first order and then all refills come in a biodegradable pouch.
Other Toxin Free Options:
Molly’s Suds (use code STEPHRYAN to get 10% off)
